![]() ![]() Only 5 Arduino pins are now required for USB Host Shield to function – 3 standard SPI pins (SCK, MISO, MOSI) and 2 remappable pins (SS and INT). Note this means that it uses pin 13, 12, 11 on an Arduino Uno, so these pins can not be used for anything else than SPI communication! It uses the SCK, MISO and MOSI pins via the ICSP on your board. The shield is using SPI for communicating with the MAX3421E USB host controller. Reading in a different place (the library's 2.0 release announcement below) it seems only the ICSP pins are used. ![]() In one place it strongly suggests to my mind that pin 12 is going to be my conflict (in the USB library's README.md file below) Because all devices share the MOSI, MISO, and SCLK lines, all commands sent from the master arrive at each slave device. Pins 10-13 are usually used, but there are also MOSI, MISO, and SCLK pins on the ICSP header (near the ATMEGA chip). I feel worried about D12 after reading through different documentation. > Master Our Slave In (MOSI) - This pin is used by SPI master. The following table lists the pin connections: microSD Card Module, Arduino. In SPI Communication above terms (MOSI & MISO) are used for following purpose. Overall, there are 32 pins on the Arduino UNO Board. On the other side, NC is Pin 19, IOREF is Pin 20 etc. So, RX is Pin 1, TX is Pin 2, D2 is Pin 3 and so on. Let the numbering begin with the RX Pin (D0). The Customer must not rely on the absence or characteristics of any features or instructions marked 'reserved' or 'undefined. For pin description of Arduino UNO, let us assume some basic numbering. The Pololu shield uses D12 for enabling motor #2 and also for detecting motor fault on #2. 0 those pins are digital 13 (SCK), 12 (MISO), 11 (MOSI) and 10 (CS). Arduino may make changes to specifications and product descriptions at any time, without notice. There's a way to reroute D12 on the Pololu shield but it's the most expensive thing in the stack and the less I mess with it the better my chances of not having to buy a second one. I'm researching compatibility, hoping to add a USB Host Shield for connecting an Xbox controller. Usually by specifying the chip select pin in the device constructor. Libraries will have the facility to change the chip select so that you can have multiple devices on the SPI bus. I have an Uno and a Pololu vnh5019 shield. The default SPI chip select pin on the Mega is 53, but any pin can be used as a chip select. On an Uno board, are the SPI pins and the D11-D13 pins tied together (ie, are they essentially the same pins and this can't be changed?) ![]()
